Third Street Social South Plaza settles comfortably into its spot on Main Street in Kansas City as a full-service American restaurant that balances casual dining with a touch of thoughtful presentation. The vibe here leans toward relaxed and approachable, making it a great choice whether you're looking for a weekday lunch, a lively weekend brunch, or a laid-back dinner.

The atmosphere has an intimate feel at night thanks to warm, adjustable lighting that helps the space avoid feeling like a typical sports bar, even though TVs are thoughtfully placed around the room for those wanting to keep an eye on the game. This subtle mix of social bustle with cozy dining corners makes it a versatile spot for groups, dates, and solo visits alike.

Menu-wise, Third Street Social shows a clear pride in well-executed American classics with some creative nods. The Deviled Eggs and Creole BBQ Shrimp stand out as appetizers that deliver on flavor without overcomplication. Heartier options like the Stuffed Salmon, Third Street Meatloaf, and Blackened Shrimp Tacos cover a nice spectrum for different cravings, while the Nashville Hot Wings and Pork Belly Burnt Ends bring a satisfying punch for those who like their meals with some heat and depth.

Brunch draws a crowd with offerings like Chicken Biscuits and Belgian Waffles, appealing to those who want a comforting but elevated start to the day. Regulars often mention standout dishes such as the chicken fried steak and creamy chicken pot pie, signaling consistent kitchen quality that makes recurring visits worthwhile. The thoughtful side dishes—grilled jumbo asparagus, steak & mushroom soup, and fresh salads—add variety without overshadowing a main course.

Service at Third Street Social tends to be friendly and attentive, even during busy shifts where staff turnover is noticeable but managed with professionalism. The restaurant’s approachability extends to family-style meal packs, which suggest it’s also a practical choice for gatherings beyond casual dining, like celebrations or group dinners.

This spot works best for those who appreciate a traditional American menu with local twists, everyone from young professionals looking for a casual meal with friends to families celebrating special occasions. Weekend brunches and relaxed weeknight dinners seem particularly suited to the ambiance here, especially when you want good food paired with a welcoming, lively environment that doesn’t overwhelm with noise or crowds.

this food y'all. I never knew it was possible for food to taste this delicious. both the chicken fried steak and the chicken pot pie were like a *transcendental experience*. wow. just wow. also a shout-out to the burnt ends which were *perfectly* cooked, and the salmon dip appetizer which was delicious and creamy and salmony without any other distracting flavors mixed in. the wait staff were super nice and friendly and attentive. I liked that our waiter asked if we had any questions about the menu in advance of taking our orders, because I *did* have a question and this way I could ask it without feeling pressured to hurry up and order. I also like that this place has huge windows in front so it gets a lot of natural sunlight (and there's no risk of being blinded by the actual sun since the tall buildings across the street block it from view). I don't normally enjoy being at restaurants and the only reason I even came here is because a friend of a friend decided to treat a group of us to brunch. But I'm so glad I did, and I will *definitely* be coming back. I even told my out-of-state family "the next time you come to KC we *have* to go to third street social." edited to add this photo of the key lime pie I ordered for dessert. The lime flavor really came through with just a hint of sour citrusy tang, and was well balanced by the top layer which was rich and creamy and sweet-but-not-too-sweet. It might have been real cream. What most impressed me was the crust, which i think was made of brown sugar? It tasted like it was specifically crafted to enhance the overall flavor profile of the pie, not just to be an edible container for the filling.

This place was very cool, the food was delicious! Had the shrimp tacos as appetizer, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas, chicken, and spinach lasagna and for dessert..apple cobbler and ice cream. Everything was superb! The lightening at dinner made for a very intimate atmosphere. TV's strategically placed made a nice touch as well; just enough to keep up but not overwhelming like a sports bar.

It is in great location and has excellent ambience. Not sure if it’s a restaurant that wants to be a sports bar or vice versa. Regardless, the food is pretty good w good sized portions and the service is excellent. Seems like they have high turnover so you’ll be making friends w a new staff member every time you go in.

Definitely recommend! We went for Saturday brunch and it wasn’t busy at the time. Good service and a nice casual but tasteful atmosphere. I had the breakfast tacos, which were quite good. They had the expected spicy kick from chorizo and good ingredients. I really enjoyed the side of potatoes as well. My group all seemed to enjoy their food so this restaurant seems to do many things well. I’d love to return to try more dishes.
